Tuna sandwich

Print Recipe
A tuna sandwich is a quick, tasty meal made with canned tuna mixed with mayonnaise and other seasonings, then spread on bread. It’s great for a quick lunch, and there's no need to add salt, as canned tuna already has enough salt in it.

Ingredients

  • 240 grams of tuna 2 cans, (in water or oil, drained)
  • 2 boiled eggs
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped celery optional, for crunch
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise adjust to your preference
  • 1 tbsp Greek yoghurt
  • ¼ cup onion finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp sriracha sauce/chilli sauce or 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1-2 tablespoons chopped pickles or relish optional
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice optional, for extra tang
  • Coriander leaves
  • Pepper
  • 6 slices of bread white, whole wheat, or any bread you prefer

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, chopped boiled eggs, Greek yoghurt, chilli sauce, onions, coriander leaves, lemon juice and pepper.
  • Add chopped celery and pickle relish, if using, and mix well.
  • Check the salt beforehand, canned tuna often brings its own saltiness.
  • Lay your bread slices on a flat surface. Spread the tuna mixture evenly over one slice.
  • Place the other bread on top to close the sandwiches.
  • Slice the sandwiches in half and serve immediately. You can toast the bread for extra texture if you prefer.
  • Enjoy your tuna sandwich with a cup of soup, chai or coffee!

Notes

Toast the bread for crispiness that contrasts well with the creamy tuna mixture.
Skipping the salt helps keep the sandwich from becoming overly salty due to the canned tuna.
You can substitute some or all of the mayonnaise with Greek yoghurt or mashed avocado for a lighter option.
A sprinkle of smoked paprika or a dash of hot sauce can spice things up.
