Instructions
Prepare the Mug: Start by selecting a microwave-safe mug. Make sure the mug is large enough to allow the cake to rise without overflowing
Chocolate mug cake
Melt the butter in the microwave in 10-second intervals, stirring.
30 g butter
In a microwave-safe mug, add the egg, sugar, vanilla extract, cream, melted butter and whisk.
Stir in the flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt. Stir everything together until the mixture is smooth and there are no lumps.
3 tbsp all-purpose flour, ¼ tsp baking powder, A pinch of salt
Add the sprinkles (if using) and combine.
Sprinkles
Place the mug in the microwave and cook on high for 1 minute. Microwave times can vary, so check the cake. If it is still slightly wet in the middle, continue to cook in 10-second intervals until fully set. The cake should rise and be firm to the touch.
Let the mugcake cool for a couple of minutes before eating. Be careful, as it will be hot straight out of the microwave.
You can enjoy the mugcake as is or top it with whipped cream, frosting, sprinkles, or fresh fruit to make it even more delicious!
Notes
Check Microwave Wattage: Microwave wattages vary, so cooking times may differ. If your microwave is more or less powerful than 900 watts (the typical wattage for the recipe), start with the suggested time and check the doneness. If necessary, cook in 10-second intervals until the cake is fully cooked.Don’t Overmix the Batter: When mixing the ingredients, be sure to mix just until everything is combined. Overmixing can result in a denser cake, which may not rise as well.Watch for Overcooking: Keep a close eye on the cake as it cooks. Overcooking can lead to a dry mug cake. Stop cooking as soon as the cake has risen and is firm to the touch.Add Toppings: Mug cakes are great on their own, but you can make them even more indulgent by adding toppings. Whipped cream, ice cream, chocolate syrup, or fresh fruit are great choices to elevate the flavour.
